Like most people I have had my share of challenges and disappointments. However, I have been fortunate in my life to discover solutions and find opportunities when I need them. Perhaps it is my intense and unyielding determination to find a way, even if unconventional. When I become attentive and absorbed in new pursuits I set my intentions and serendipitous events abound everywhere.
While writing my first fictional series l began to doubt my authentic voice. On May 11th I tweeted the following:
Then curious events began happen. Most were concerning the leading male character. I had created a detailed physical character description and a few weeks later I found a picture of a deceased man who matched my character down to the cleft in his chin. The day after writing about two of the characters connecting on social media, I received a friend request from someone similar to the male protagonist in my novel. My male character is embroidered in a secret project to preserve the history of mankind. My new friend on Facebook, preserves ancestral history. The male character holds a Masters in Psychology and Doctorate in Philosophy. My new friend on Facebook, a Sociology major. Finally because my book is mystic in nature, when I created the profile for my male character I assigned him a birth date for astrological alignment between my two main characters. The male character’s birthday is June 28th. My new friend on Facebook, June 25th.
The protagonist in my novel has never met the male character who is her cousin. In real life I have never met either cousin who the male character is an amalgamation.
Uncanny! Not to mention a touch of goosebumps.
The final event was when I discovered some of my departed familial people belonged to fraternity and sorority orders. In my story the protagonist is lured back to the tribal lands of her people to finally become inducted into a secret society.
I began to feel as if I’d tapped into some Universal energy tying fantasy to the material world. The first to occur was in my imagination, the second a real life incidence mirroring the fictional story being told. Perhaps it was a gift from my ancestors for choosing their homeland as the backdrop for my story. Whether either of these are true, or not, I’m grateful for these happenstances. They kept me motivated to complete the first draft of my novel.
Hmm…If only I could effectively imagine hitting the lottery (wink).
